Birds possible to see at each site
Balang Shan and Wolong area Birds Info


Wolong & Balang Shan Area:

From Wolong village (1900m) where the Golden Pheasant it is,we drive 70km up to Balang Shan arrive the high pass at over 4500m. Up to the habitat of Tibetan Snowcock, Snow Partridge and endemic Chinese Monal. At the highest altitudes, we may well find Grandalas, Alpine Accentors, Red-breasted Rosefinches and Plain and Brandt’s Mountain Finches. 

Lower down, we will can see White Eared Pheasant and the summer migrant Firethroat and Koklass Pheasants.

Other species we may find in this site are Lammergeier, Himalayan Griffon Vulture, Eurasian Sparrowhawk, Himalayan Buzzard (split from Common), Golden Eagle, Common Kestrel, Common (or Ring-necked) Pheasant ,  Snow Pigeon, Common Cuckoo, Asian House Martin, Rosy Pipit, White-throated Dipper, White-tailed Rubythroat, Indian Blue Robin, Blue-fronted, Daurian and Plumbeous Redstarts, White-capped Water Redstart, the endemic Kessler’s and Chestnut Thrushes, Alpine Leaf Warbler (split from Tickell’s Leaf), the endemic Spectacled Parrotbill, White-browed Fulvetta, Spotted Nutcracker, Red-billed and Alpine Choughs, and Chinese Beautiful (split from Himalayan Beautiful) and Streaked Rosefinches. If we are really in luck we will come across the impressive endemic Barred Laughingthrush or the near-endemic Black-browed Tit.

Another information is from May 2016 , we reported Blackthroat at Wolong for 2 years at the same site but still not looks like here is a stable breeding site for this rare bird.
