Wild animal plus birds tour leaded by Tang Jun. Start from Chengdu then drive north to Tangjiahe NR and Foping NR mainly for Tarkin, Sichuan Snub-nosed Monkey and all other possible endemic birds.

Peter arrived at Chengdu on time from Europe but poor guy his checked two bags not arrived with the same plane. So we decided to go to Wawu Shan for a 2 nights stay birding and Red Panda first. Then drive to north overstop at Chengdu for picking his bags.

At last on 18 Aug late eveining, we get into Tang Jia He NR where is about 340km north of Chengdu city and just re-opened in July 2011 after the 2008 earthquake.We drove directly to the protection station named Motian Lin where we met the staff and our two porters/loacl guides.

19-23 Aug total we spent 5 full days up there in mountains but bad weather and two days only can stay around the hut.

One day we climbed up to the summit but cloudy but luckly the days we tried looking for the monkeys is sunny.

By the help of the two porters/guides/cooks, climbing up is ok even the trail a little diffcult. The hut one is about 2 hours climb up to the summit and from the end of the road where we start is about 3-4 hours climb to the hut one. Hut two located lower and in the middle of the summit and ends of the road, where is for the monkeys.

Generally at Tang Jia He is good for animals (Giant Panda, Golden Monkey, Takin etc...) and some good birds include: Chinese Monal,..Rusty-throated Parrotbill, Blood Pheasant Gansu Sub-species,Slaty Bunting, Temmicn's Tragpon and other birds total has above 200 species recorded).

After Tangjiahe we drove north into Shanxi Province where mainly for the Crested Ibis and carry on to Changqing NR for Golden Monkeys again.

At the moment (August) Ibis looks much more beautiful than breeding season and local NR guy show us one of the nest area where we just wait the birds coming back after a one day feeding.

After Shanxi province we turn back to Sichuan and head to the biggest wetland of north Sichuan where we had an excellent look of the Black-necked Cranes & Chinese Grey Shrik before the back to south

Before we back to Chengdu where Peter departure on 4 Sep to Europe, we staied 3 nights at Wolong NR and even not the good season for the birds of Balang Shan but we managed to have a good time with one group of Snow Partridges and Grandalas.
